Susan Penfold fell in love with the vibrancy and tactile nature of pastel when she undertook her first class in 2016.

While working full time she kept improving her skills and in 2020 she held her first solo exhibition at Darwin Visual Arts. During this year she won the Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival Jetty Art prize and received a highly-commended in the Katherine Art Show. She subsequently held solo exhibitions at Dom’s Bar and was invited to exhibit at Songlines Gallery in Darwin, Northern Territory.

In 2022 she moved to Adelaide, South Australia, and became a part-time carer for her elderly parents while setting up her studio to become a full time artist.

In 2023 she won the Non-Professional Award at Plein Air Down Under, an outdoor painting festival held in Western Australia, the first year she entered. She subsequently exhibited at the invitation-only Spirit of the Landscape exhibition.

Susan enjoys painting landscapes, still life and human and pet portraits with her main focus being capturing the light and colour. If you have a particular artwork in mind, feel free to contact Susan to discuss.
